Septuagint-based Bible Chronology

Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden
Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, by Johann Wenzeslaus Peter, 1800-1829

Here are our calculations for Bible chronology based on the Greek Septuagint text, with input from other sources where necessary.

Please don’t assume that our calculations below are absolutely correct, since there are many unknowns and variable interpretations. However, it’s interesting how our conclusion comes within 30 years of what is found in the ancient Byzantine calendar, which sets the date of Adam’s creation at 5509 BCE. That is a wonderful confirmation, because the ancients had access to documents that are no longer available today, such as the contents of ancient libraries (e.g. in Alexandria).

Note that we didn’t start calculating this chronology to prove anyone right or wrong. It’s just that while translating our Bible we found that many of the calculations made by Western religions about the age of mankind were based on errors and corrupted texts.

Our calculations

We start with the death of the Egyptian Pharaoh Ahmose around 1525 BCE, the date we calculated for the Exodus. Now we go backwards in time:

+400 years, how long the IsraElites spent in Egypt, Genesis 15:13 (starting in 1925 BCE)
+30 years, how long Jacob spent in the Promised Land between returning from Harran and moving to Egypt (c. 1955 BCE)
+100 years old is the age of Jacob on his return to the Promised Land (c. 2055 BCE)
+60 years is the age of Isaac when Jacob was born, Genesis 25:26 (c. 2115 BCE)
+100 years is the age of Abraham when Isaac was born, Genesis 21:5 (c. 2215 BCE)
+130 years is the age of Terah when Abram was born, Genesis 11:22 (see translator note) (c. 2345 BCE)
+79 years to Terah (c. 2424 BCE)
+130 years to Seruch (c. 2554 BCE)
+132 years to Ragau, Genesis 11:14 (c. 2686 BCE)
+134 years to Phaleg (c. 2820 BCE)
+130 years to Heber (c. 2950 BCE)
+130 years to Sala (c. 3080 BCE)
+135 years to Kainan, Genesis 11:10 (c. 3215 BCE)
+2 years from flood to birth of Arphaxad

c. 3217 BCE The Great Downpour

+1 year in ark, Genesis 8:1 (c. 3218 BCE)
+97 years is the life of Shem prior to Downpour (see translator note) (c. 3315 BCE)
+502 years to Noah, Genesis 5:32 (c. 3817 BCE)
+188 years to Lamech, Genesis 5:28 (c. 4005 BCE)
+187 years to Methuselah, Genesis 5:25 (c. 4192 BCE)
+165 years to Enoch, Genesis 5:21 (c. 4357 BCE)
+162 years to Jared, Genesis 5:18 (c. 4519 BCE)
+165 years to MaleLeal, Genesis 5:15 (c. 4684 BCE)
+170 years to Cainen, Genesis 5:12 (c. 4853 BCE)
+190 years to Enos, Genesis 5:9 (c. 5044 BCE)
+205 years to Seth, Genesis 5:6 (c. 5249 BCE)
+230 years to creation of Adam, Genesis 5:3

c. 5479 BCE The creation of Adam

These are all estimated and rounded numbers, and not to be considered exact.
