Genesis 21:22, 32 – ‘Ochozath’
A person named Ochozath isn’t listed in the Hebrew Masoretic text at Genesis 21:22, 32, but he is mentioned in the Greek Septuagint. This unusual extra detail is one of several that make us continue to believe that Greek text may be more accurate that the current Hebrew texts.
Ochozath’s relationship to AbiMelech seems interesting. The Greek word used to describe him is nymphagogos, which means ‘bride bringer.’ It refers to a close friend that would procure a bride (or brides).
