About
This is a highly respected version of the New Testament in its original Greek language, assembled by the famous 19th-century scholar Constantin von Tischendorf.
Instead of relying on just one ancient copy, Tischendorf meticulously compared many of the oldest and most significant manuscripts available in his time. His work prominently featured Codex Sinaiticus (א / 01), which he rediscovered, alongside other crucial witnesses like Codex Vaticanus (B / 03), Codex Alexandrinus (A / 02), and Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus (C / 04). By weighing the evidence from these and other sources, his goal was to reconstruct the Greek text as accurately as possible, getting closer to the original writings.
Tischendorf's resulting work was groundbreaking. It provides a valuable snapshot of the Greek text based on the best manuscript evidence known in the 19th century. Reading it allows you to engage with the New Testament language directly and understand the critical foundation upon which many modern Bible translations are built. It remains an important resource for study and comparison.
Our text is the 8th edition, based upon the public domain Tischendorf text edited by Ulrik Petersen.
