Revelation 14:15 – has dried up?
Revelation 14:15 says (literally):
‘Dispatch your sickle and reap, because the hour of the harvest has come, because the earth’s harvest has dried up!’
This may sound strange to us, but that’s because most of us don’t know what it’s like to harvest grain. The harvest only takes place when the grain has matured (it’s no longer green) and has thoroughly dried out; and it’s often a big rush to gather in all the grain before it rains. If it’s wet, you can’t store it very well, and it will spoil.
So, if the harvest ‘has dried up’, that means it’s absolutely the time to harvest it, and you should not do it any earlier, nor should you do it a moment later.
Therefore, this indicates that the ‘harvest’ mentioned here is certainly of grain, which may remind readers of Jesus’ illustration of the wheat and the weeds (also known as the parable of the wheat and the tares) in Matthew 13:24-30.
